It has four racing teams to choose from, and each has team two ships. In this competition, the player can assume the role of a pilot of a unique craft and ride on different tracks. It is the first game in the series of Wipeout that takes place in the futuristic year of 2052, where the player can compete in the F3600 anti-gravity racing league. Two career players can in theory meet on one planet to compete with one another, but the easier option for the very enjoyable multiplayer game is simply to take advantage of the standard practice mode.Īn easy game to dismiss at a glance, but one which gives great reward to those who look beyond the surface.Wipeout is a Racing, Single-player, and Multiplayer video game developed and published by Psygnosis. The game has a lot of lasting appeal once you get into the full "career" mode where you can bet on your own (and other peoples) matches, and travel through the galaxy to compete on different worlds, in different arenas, with increasingly difficult opponents. The main gameplay is basically like 'Tron' or 'Worm' and is very fun, although not overly smooth on the plain a500, but the controls here are like any other racer, left/right, slow/fast with appropriate turning circles, and fire to jump (if you have a good enough hoverboard) - and there's even a few powerups to collect along the way. Thankfully, the shift keys act as volume controls, allowing you to kill the music at your discretion. The music is let down not by composition, but by the choice of sounds which do grate after a while. The menu can be confusing, because it has no text, but if you have access to the manual thats easily solved everything does eventually make sense. A WHDLoad slave for this game would work wonders, as the disk routine is rather clunky. Actually, this game is an absolute gem, but has a terrible ADF version, and should really only be played from IPF or original disk.
